Description: Up for sale is a gorgeous, high grade 1896 $1 Educational Silver Certificate. These are perhaps the most ornate and beautiful notes ever printed by the United States, and one of the most sought after by collectors. It was a single year issue, a very short printing of only about half a serial number block before being replaced by the Black Eagle. This $1 denomination features the image of History Instructing Youth. Silver Certificates were true workhorses of everyday use in the economy so high grade notes are especially scarce. Fascinating that these were once redeemable for a silver dollar! This note was a very early printing, evidenced by the low 6 digit serial and faceplate #2, and back plate #1, the very first ever engraved of this design. This note grades VF/XF in my opinion with a few folds but still crisp and sharp with stunning vibrant colors and clean edges / corners. Center pinhole only visible with bright back light. Please check scans and judge grade for yourself. Don't let this one sit in your watchlist too long, I don't often get Educationals, they tend to go fast, and this is perhaps the nicest one I have had. Sent with signature confirmation. Thanks for looking and have a great day!
