ROTAX 912S, BUT THIS AIRCRAFT WAS ORDERED WITH THE UPGRADED 115 H.P. TURBOCHARGED ROTAX 914 ENGINE!BUT, LIKE ANY AMPHIBIAN AIRPLANE, IT IS IMPORTANT TO HAVE THE LANDING GEAR DOWN FOR A RUNWAY LANDING AND THE LANDING EAR UP FOR A WATER LANDING!THIS AIRPLANE LANDED WITH THE GEAR IN THE DOWN POSITION, WHICH DOESN’T USUALLY CAUSE AN ISSUE RIGHT AT TOUCHDOWN, BUT AS THE HULL SETTLES FARTHER INTO THE WATER AS IT SLOWS, TENDS TO “TRIP” THE AIRPLANE AND FLIP IT ONTO IT’S BACK, AND THAT IS WHAT HAPPENED HERE.THE LOWER ALUMINUM HULL SHOWS NO SERIOUS DAMAGE OR WRINKLING (THE RUBBER CENTER STRIP IS MEARLY UNGLUED AT ITS TRAILING EDGE.)BOTH WINGS HAVE SOME WRINKLES IN THE FABRIC SKINS, AS A RESULT OF PRESSURE ON THE ALUMINUM LEADING EDGES OR ALUMINUM RIBS.BOTH SPARS THEMSELVES ARE STRAIGHT, AND THE ATTACHMENT POINTS ON THE WINGS AND ON THE FUSELAGE CARRYTHROUGH ARE NOT DAMAGED.THIS AIRCRAFT HAS A FOLDING WING DESIGN FOR EASY STORAGE OR GROUND TRANSPORTATION!THE FIBERGLASS UPPER NOSE HAS CRACKING BUT IS ALL INTACT.THE WINDSHIELD AND FRAME AND THE RIGHT SLIDING WINDOW WAS RIPPED AWAY, BUT THE LEFT SLIDING WINDOW (WHICH FUNCTIONS AS A DOOR), SLIDES EASILY AND IS UNDAMAGED.THERE IS A FIBERGLASS “SKIRT” BEHIND THE COCKPIT AND ABOVE THE HULL, AND THERE IS SOME SLIGHT CRACKING HERE. I BELIEVE IT MAY HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY PUTTING WEIGHT ON THIS AREA WHILE STANDING TO ATTACH A HOOK TO LIFT THE AIRPLANE, NOT FROM THE ACTUAL INCIDENT. THIS IS A VERY THIN, FLEXIBLE AREA, EASY REPAIR!THE TAILCONE IS ALUMINUM, AND THERE IS THE SLIGHTEST WRINKLE ONLY AT THE OPEN EDGE OF THE FAR AFT UPPER SKIN, AFT OF THE AFT BULKHEAD.
