Description: Here we have a piece of antique folk art that is certain to be a conversation piece. We believe that it was an antique canvas covered civil war canteen that a potter turned into a piece of art with some red clay and imagination. You can see the canvas like texture on both sides that has had a skim of redware laid over it and at the top is a beautiful spout that looks like the mouthpiece of a musical instrument. The spout and clay were firmly fired into place to create this interesting bit of art and to preserve history. The filigree was fashioned in a way that the canteen could be hung on the wall. It will not hold water as the spout is solid deep inside. There are no breaks or cracks. It is a decorative item only. Please refer to the photos for the best look. Measurements are: 10 ¾” bottom to the spout x 8 ¾” w. and is somewhat heavy as it is mostly pottery. Be sure to view all the photos. For some of our listings, the photos have a scroll down arrow.
