Description: Up for sale is a great, colored, original ANTIQUE MAP OF THE "CITY OF BALTIMORE TOPOGRAPHICAL SURVEY" - Made Under The Direction Of H. T. Douglas, Chief Engineer. It is a very detailed map, measuring approximately 29 1/2 x 32 inches, including the border area. It is blank on the reverse side. This map is from the "ATLAS OF THE CITY OF BALTIMORE, MD" - Prepared From The Work Of The Topographical Survey - Alcabus Hooper, Mayor, Chas. D. Fenhagen, Comptroller, Wm. F. Stone, Register } Commission. July, 1897 - Copyrighted 1897 by Mayor and City Council of Baltimore. Calvin Whiteley, Jr. & J. W. Crisfield - Topographers. Drawn by Thos. M. Ward. This is Map 1N1E- From Page 19 of the original Atlas. This map includes the Green Mount Cemetery area, Madison Square Park and the Jones Falls Expressway Area. Some of the features of the map are, clearings, marshes, quarries, embankments, orchards, vineyards, drains & streams, frame buildings, brick buildings, stone buildings, steam roads, cable roads, trestles & bridges, sewers & underground drains, clearings, trees, and more! Maps this early and showing this much detail are a great piece of history! There are some tears and small holes along the left edge from where it was originally bound. Map is generally in Good Condition. Some age related browning and toning and some spotting and stains. The map has some small tears, creases, wrinkles and chips around the edges, but they do not affect the map. Some creases in the map, as well - tears in the corners. There is also a tear on the upper left side edge that extends about 3" into the border/map. Some other dings here and there. This map would be a great addition to any collection and will look very nice when framed! Please note that while I have included a picture of the Title Page of the Atlas and a copy of the Standard Symbols Key from the Index Page that this map was taken from, they are NOT included in the sale, as they are reference pieces to determine authenticity for the other maps.
