The carving was acquired through trade during travels to remote villages in the jungles of New Guinea along the Sepic and Kalahari rivers in 1984. The cult hook was used to hang and dry meat and fish, keeping food off the ground, and also hanging shrunken heads. This item is a unique tribal artifact from the indigenous people of New Guinea. The Cult Hook is a carved figure of a female, with long hair, inlaid shells, and is of museum quality. It has been carefully displayed in the owner’s personal collection of tribal artifacts. It is adorned with a beaded necklace with claws, and ornaments and clothing of knotted string. The Cult Hook measures approximately 34" tall 13" wide. The cult hook is carved from a single piece of wood, and is painted or stained with light, dark and reddish colors. Please examine the photos, and ask any questions.
