Description: EDWARDIAN TAPE LACE & SILK EVENING COAT, EARLY 20TH CENTURY, NYC LABEL, 1912s Romantic multi hued tape lace evening coat over floral patterned silk damask, chiffon ruching, with ornate cotton tape lace large intricate florals with fancy fillings inside each flower, and with wandering leaf and tendrils throughout. Wide shawl collar, lovely long full sleeves, lovely large domed pronged faceted rhinestone buttons sewn on a silk satin pleated rosette panaches. Buttons decorated at sleeve cuffs and paired rhinestone buttons on both sides of center front opening. An unusual center front opening with 2 woven cord closures and with a wide sweeping hem. Turks head knot baubles at collar edge and sleeve cuffs. Circa 1912This is a one of a kind work of art in construction of a handmade tape lace coat.Label reads: Laracy, 11 West 26th St., New YorkThe tape lace was made by stitching together plain cloth pre-made tapes into stylized floral and geometric patterns with threads simply twisted together like spider-like decorations formed by weaving over and under threads.Deaccessioned by the Valentine Museum. CONDITIONThe overall condition is very good with the following. Lining heavily split damage, minor discoloration on ball trim, small stain on center lower back, minor tarnish, few broken brides.
