Description: This listing is for mid-'60s set of a 1964 Honda E40 generator plus the Sony Micro TV 5-303W it was designed for. The story started when Akio Mori, founder of the booming giant Sony Corporation, ventured into the portable TV field with the Micro TV, which ran on batteries, 110 volt AC, or plugged into a car's 12 volt cigarette lighter. But he also wanted it to run on a portable gas generator, which was outside Sony's field of expertise. He asked his fellow Japanese industrialist, his friend Soichiro Honda, who was just getting into the portable generator market. And so the E40 was developed, with a 17cc 4-stroke engine turning a generator that put out 20 watts on each of 2 circuits, 40 watts total. It was the size of 2 lunch boxes, and weighed close to 20 pounds. It was solid, well designed, and very quiet and economical. However, Sony wanted to put their brand on it, which Honda wouldn't allow, so that was that. Most ended up being given to dealers as awards or gifts. I never started the generator, though it has been run before. The pull rope is taut, returns properly, and has plenty of compression. It has some scuffs on it as pictures will show, but overall is in nice condition. As seen in the second-to-last picture, the white shandle trim is cracked and needs to be glued, and there is a crease on the silver panel, as well as paint loss and dings. The panel knob on one end is missing. The tank looks clean, and the original tool kit/plug wrench are in the bottom compartment. Comes with the molded plastic plug that joins both 20 watt circuits into one 40 watt, and the transformer for car cigarette lighter. The Sony Micro TV was purchased so I could display them together. This combo was previously displayed at American Honda, and the little plaque is included. I never tried the TV, which makes no difference now as there are no longer any broadcast signals. The screen is scratched, and the antenna tip is broken off. The case needs to be glued in the back where the covering is peeling. The last picture shows the same models at the American Honda Collection Hall. It is packed in a box, then placed in another box. It is heavy, weighs 32 pounds.
